How to Create Your Own Good Luck

June 28, 2007

By Tim Ryan

Would you like to be able to create your own luck? Yeah of course you would. We have all experienced our own streaks of good and bad fortune. Luck is a funny thing though, it’s nature is so random, coming and going as it pleases, yet almost always deserting you when you desire it most and reappearing when you least expect it.

You have probably experienced this yourself at some point: a hot run at the bookies, favourable career decisions going your way and so on… yet almost as gauranteed as day follows night the luck seems to disappear. It usually occurs just as soon as you start to reflect on your recent good form and start to worry about how long it will continue to run for. This doubt and fear then robs you of the very thing that created your luck in the first place. In short it makes you fearful and indecisive.

When your run of luck started I’m sure you remember that it came down to making a definite decision of some sort: to apply for a job or back your business instinct but whatever it was it came down to making a positive decision. It should be of no surprise then that as soon as you started to reflect on your ‘good luck’ and started to worry about how long it would last this fear almost inevitabley leads you to be indecisive and indeed robs you of your luck in a quite ironic fashion.

So a few keys to remember when wanting to create yourself some luck:
Be decisive and proactive, don’t doubt and just accept the luck by not questioning it.

I find this approach nicely summed up by U.S Anderson (The Magic In Your Mind):

The 15 Winning Characteristics of the Happiest, Most Successful People

May 14, 2007

By Cari Vollmer

Some people make living their best life and creating success look so easy, don’t they? And yet, many successful people will tell you it’s not actually easy for them, they just rely on their strengths to pull them forward and over the rough spots.

Below are 15 characteristics of the happiest, most successful people I know and have had the privilege of knowing. Use this list as a guide, not an end all and be all. I doubt any one person is strong in all of these areas, but some come close.

1. Willing

Successful people are willing to dig in, do the work and learn new things. They’re simply willing to do whatever it takes to create the life they want.

2. Open

Successful people are open to new ideas. They don’t close themselves off from information that might help them.

3. Courageous

Often, successful people are risk-takers, but more importantly they’re courageous. They tap into the courage that lives deep in them and use it to break ground, try new things and put themselves out in front.

4. Decisive

There’s an old adage that says be quick to make a decision and slow to change it. Successful people do just that. They don’t vacillate or sit on the fence. They decide and move forward. Indecisiveness will kill momentum.

5. Love Learning

Have you ever seen a successful person’s personal library? It’s usually packed full! Successful people are willing to invest in themselves, either through reading, attending seminars or workshops. They know they don’t have all the answers so they seek people that have the answers they’re looking for.

Failure Precedes Success!

March 18, 2007

By: Max Ng

There is this Chinese Saying that literally translates to “Failure Is The Mother Of Success!”. Basically, it means personal developmentthat failure is like a mother who will give birth to success. A more proper way to phrase it will be failure precedes success. Usually, it is use to encourage someone who have just encountered a failure or setback in life. It helps to remind the person that one will definitely need to go through the experience of failures before one can succeed.

Though I heard of this saying numerous times during my upbringing, I never really realized the full meaning of the saying. Actually, there is another way to interpret the saying. If I want to succeed quickly, I need to experience as many failures as possible in the shortest possible time.

Why? Each failure is due to a mistake or a combination of mistakes. If I can learn from my mistakes, I will improve in whatever I am trying doing. When I experience failure faster, it simply means that I have made mistakes quicker. This gives me the opportunity to learn from my mistakes earlier. And I will improve faster. At this fast rate of learning from mistakes, my success will be nearer.
