Personal Tributaries

Its been a couple weeks since I have thrown some thoughts your way, and while working out tonight on the elliptical, while reading a great book, I came across some great thoughts.

One. Whatever you think about, either positive or negative… the more of that you get in your life. This goes for things that you think that you WANT, and for things that you think that you DON’T want. Regardless, you are gonna get more of what you place your focus on. It is the Law of Attraction.

Right now, DON’T think of the color blue. Just dont think of that color, think of any color except Blue. Its nearly impossible.

If you are always thinking “Why cant I attract the person of my dreams? Why can’t I find someone to love me? Why do I always mess up these relationships?” You are going to be attracted to more of the same.

I have spoke of this before, and the power of asking the right questions. This is key… Not only is asking the right questions important, but also as equally important is focusing on the right types of things. Positive things.

In the book, ‘Ask and It Is Given’ by Esther and Jerry Hicks, which I happened to be reading tonight… they stated that the more that find undesireable things to focus on, the more that those types of things will pop up into your focus, front and center.

‘Oh that person cut me off, what a crappy driver.’ ‘Oh this waitress is taking forever, she is horrible.’ ‘Oh, man, its Monday? I hate Monday!’ ‘Uggh this sucks…that sucks… you suck… he sucks!’ Its all the same. The more you focus on what makes you upset and unhappy, there will be more things that make you upset and unhappy, because you are attracting them.

Likewise, as cheesy as it sounds… if you live your day with an Attitude of Gratitude, and focus on that which is pleasing to you, and makes you happy, and joyful, the more of these type of things will float your way.

You can practice this, buy looking around your current environment, and finding something that makes you happy. Maybe its a CD of your favorite band, maybe its a picture of your favorite Model, or of a loved one… or of a trophy of something you achieved. Notice how focusing on positive things makes you feel. Then realize that you can take this state with you throughout the day… and consciously focus on that which makes you positive, instead of that inwhich makes you negative.

Chew on that. :-)


A good friend of mine was having some personal issues, and we discovered that his focus is here and there, on this and on that… mostly on negative things. He wanted to work on this project and on that project and do this and do that… but had so many things to do, that nary a one of them got done.

We decided that he had too many “‘Tributaries’ on his river.”

  1. A stream that flows into a larger stream or other body of water.

His focus was going in so many directions that he was unable to truly focus on anything, and so he was constantly in a state of complete and utter stress. Being frazzled nonstop and thinking about this and that, and all the things he had to do, really made him very ineffective. He needed to narrow and dry up some of his tributaries of thought so as to make himself more effiecient and effective.

Perhaps you have many things pulling your in many directions, and you need to narrow your attention? Let some things go, as they may not be as important as the key tributaries in your life. Let the small ones dry up, and only focus on the important ones!

    I found this post by accident looking for othe law of attraction materials. I agree whole heartedly with your comments. We are what we think and the law of attraction is very powerful. Many people dismiss it as nonsense but I have experienced it’s awesome power. I now positively expect good things to happen and in general they do.
