The Three Things That You Must Do To Effectively Use The Law Of Attraction.

The other day I listened to the conversation Anthony Treas had with Bob Doyle from Anthony’s 12 Week Life Transformation Series, Bob was discussing his experience using the Law Of Attraction and his cameo appearance in the movie, The personal developmentSecret. Bob said, “…..The law of attraction explains how our experience is our experience. It is the reason that everything is around us. That is our life, it’s everything that is around us and is our life.”

For years I have been wanting to make significant changes to my life, to get it working again after a series of disasters in my financials and relationships where I seemed to be absolutely stuck at the bottom. Those words definitely got my attention.

But, my inner critic quickly came into voice, “Just another ploy to get you separated from your limited money. Been there, done that and it won’t work any better than the others.”

I guess we have all been there and in my case I really wanted that Law Of Attraction to be working for me!

“The Law Of Attraction explains how our experience is our experience,” kept ring in my mind.

Damn the voice! I just kept listening!

“….But if you can get just the vibrational resonance part (right), every thought that we have, every feeling that we have, is putting out a vibration and the universe is bringing (responding) toward it, It’s a vibrational match.”

So what is happening when we talk about the Law Of Attraction?

Here it is: The world you experience, the things that happen to you, the way people treat you, badly as well as the good, the amount of money you have at any given time, etc., etc., etc., is directly the result of the type of thoughts you have about those things.

The same idea put another way: If you want to change something in your life - anything at all - no exceptions, no “ifs or buts” - you first have to change the way you think about that “something” - consciously.

A very simply proposal, but the most difficult thing to actually do in my experience.

And there is more! The thoughts you have about that “something” lead to how you feel about that “something.” The feeling you have establishes the resonance with the Universe to line up with you and deliver what you ask for.

The confusion about action: “I am thinking, I am feeling good, so where is my stuff?” I hear you ask. And it is here that I got myself stuck with only minimal results, for years!

Clearly, there was a major mismatch between what I thought I wanted and the resonance (Where is it?) I was sending out. I needed a guided process that would move me from the “knowledge” of the Law Of Attraction to the effective manifestation of my desires into my physical experience.

These are the Three Simple Steps I use:

Step 1: Accept what you are experiencing now is the result of:
a) Your emotional response to your perception (a thought) of the circumstances as only you can see it.
b) The circumstance is directly happening as a result of your previous thinking patterns coming to fruition; i.e. The Law Of Attraction in action.
This acceptance step is vital in my experience and often overlooked. It is sometimes referred to as the “Gratitude” step. Be grateful for what you have now. The Law Of Attraction indicates that all and every circumstance you deal with is directly the result of previous thinking patterns. Therefore you need to recognise that you are actually experiencing the results of past thought. What you do next, consciously, in the Now, becomes your future; which basically means that you can’t actually do (in the physical sense) a lot about changing right now what has already happened except how you choose to react to it.

Step 2: Decide (not easy at first) exactly how you would like it to be.

This is actually easier to understand than Step 1, because that step is simply an acknowledgment of The Facts of the situation and this second step is the part where you actually get to do something. Most people are more focused on doing something and that makes this one easier to understand. So, simply do it.

Before we go further I want to discuss what is meant by “emotional response” to give you an idea of what that means and how you identify it.

I want you to notice (think about it now) how you generally respond when someone tells you what great work you do or how great you look. Notice how you most frequently want to minimize these generous comments about yourself, even to the point of arguing against them. Can you see that by so doing, you say to yourself that you are not very good at all? This includes how you see yourself in the mirror. Every imperfection, body shape, hair colour/length. etc., etc., etc. you would want to change and all ideas of where you could be, or do better; all that negatively comparing yourself to others, who are always better than you are, is the main game in your mind. Simply notice how you do it to yourself.

By saying these things to yourself almost constantly you start to believe them and then you unconsciously act that out and all sorts of funny, unwanted events and things begin to occur in your life directly as a consequence of your own thoughts.

Most people I have met do this to themselves, including myself. It is often referred to as the Inner Critic and we need to recognize how devastating that constant self criticism can be in undermining our genuine efforts to become a better person in all of the ways we wish that to be. The point is: Constant thoughts along a single, general line become beliefs, which then operate non-consciously to give us what we consciously say we don’t want.

Happily, we can use this very process to structure the automatic, non-conscious thoughts that we do want to give yourself the life experience you do want.

You simply decide what you do want (Step 2.) and only think about yourself as if you already have it. This can be a fun game as it seems you are telling yourself lies; when you look, what you do want is not actually there at all; but you say to yourself that it is. This process can be proved scientifically in Quantum Physics, but all you need to accept is that it is a very important conscious thought process and is the only way you can replace the old thoughts and beliefs that reside within your non-conscious now.

Step 3: Picture and feel the way you would like it to be.

You simply imagine how you would like the new situation to feel (being happy and complete is a good one to use here); and you do this as often as you can remember to during your waking hours. I am talking about doing this at least 20 times throughout every day! Writing something short and sweet on a sheet that you can have with you and read as often as possible is a good way to do this. And then you do it, do it, do it and do it some more. The minimum time is scientifically known to be 28 days before any new, permanent structures appear in the brain to show that a new belief has developed. However, if you are dealing with a long held old belief, that time can run to months and sometimes years.

The “Link” Step: When in doubt, feeling frustrated, feeling depressed, less than, or any negative about your “current” circumstances, refer to Step 1!

And it really works: I have been without a car for the past few months and it was getting to me that I had not manifest a new one in a timely manner. For the last 4/5 weeks I have been (dare I say?) religiously using these Three Steps. Yesterday I became the proud owner of my new motor car.

Yes. it really works, but it takes some guts and determination that had been missing for me up until one month ago.

The best idea is to have fun with it. It is real, it is the natural way of the universe and you get the hang of using it, eventually! We are doing it all the time; we just don’t know how we are doing it, but we can learn and have a wonderful, prosperous, loving life as a consequence.

    Hi Stuart

    It took me years to figure this out. In psycholgoical terms its called ‘Cognitive dissonance’ and is the major stumbling block in the law of attraction. When we realise that what we want has to be in line with what we believe we can get then the law of attraction will work a lot quicker.

    This is a great story. I really enjoyed it….BUT…
    I’ve heard many stories, similar to yours, regarding how this all works for people, and what incredible things have happened simply because they truely believed that the things would happen.
    But, one question always comes up. Nobody ever explains HOW these things happen. In your case, HOW did you become the owner of a new motor car?
    I find it very difficult to believe that you woke up one morning and there was a new car in front of your house.

    What a great artical thank you for your honesty. I too know it was “me” getting in the way of my success over the years and therefore still today pay attention to that.

    Many thinns in the movie also jumped out at me like the graditude rock and how positive thoughts are much more stronger then negative ones so when you have a negative one (witch we all will still) just replace it instantly with a positive one to fix it … ya ya like Stewart said easier said then done. Really though the first step is knowing and then the next is simply take action.

    I would liek to also share when I get those who do not wish to sepperate from their money to get the book and or DVD to help them that they go to the library and find all sorts of books etc there on this topic. Or even get the free version of “The Science of Getting Rich” ebook that is online and will also take you step by step through the actions. This is the book that actually got the movie “The Secret” in motion.

    Lastly and sorry for rambling this was a great artical with wise tips. I feel thouh the one thing … yes there are more … but the one thing that will help you succeed at this is the idea of making this FUN. The more FUN you make it the more you will stick at it till the results start coming in for you. We won’t do things that we feel are not fun for very long. So yes ahve a lot of FUN with this and put it to the test for yourself.

    Thankyou everyone who has commented about my article. I wish to directly address the post by Pat: “How do you do it?”

    Pat there was no magic with my car in the sense that it just turned up in my driveway one day! Here is how it happened for me: A female friend of mine asked me to look out for a car on the internet for her as she wanted to get herself a car asap. She gave me her requirements in detail: Small, Japanese hatchback, automatic, very cheap. I spent a few hours one day simply looking around the internet and phoning a couple of people only to find their’s had been sold and I was getting nowhere fast. A couple of days later I simply decided out of sheer boredom to have another look at a particular site that included the town where I live. And there it was; the ideal car. My lady friend was most unimpressed with my find as she thought it too big for her and did not like the colour (bright red) and passed it up. I bought it instead as I thought it was the best car I had seen in this price bracket by a long shot. It has turned out to be the best car I have ever had. It seems that it had come from a deceased estate and the broker was unaware that it has a brand new motor installed and I virtually have a brand new car for the price of a cheapy. My lady friend now wishes she had bought it herself and is still looking for her’s.

    So where is the “magic” here? The magic is that I was invited to look for a car by someone else in a way that I had not thought doing myself. The magic is that I was “lead” in my fit of bordom to have another look at a site I had writen off as being useless. The magic is that the car I found was the ideal one for me that I could actually afford as it was so cheap and has turned out to be such a reliable vehicle.

    We are told not to prejudge any situation or have any precondition about how something is to come about or the means. In my case a series of seemingly unrelated events brought me to the car that was ideal for me at this time. I trust this helps.

And recently, just came across a report of an interview with Bob Proctor talking on The Secret, The Law of Attraction, Creative Visualization (key link). In the report, it showed how creative visualization can turbo-charge the Law of Attraction to us

    Hi Stuart

    Re your comments on Step 3 - Picture and feel the way you would like it to be…

    Is this consider Intention Manifestation or Creative Visualization or they are one and the same? I’ve just started practising Law Of Attraction and would like to have a better handle of it.

    I’ve came across a latest report of an interview with Bob Proctor talking about this subject and it is said that Creative Visulization is the missing link that will accelerate (i.e. turbo-charge) the Law Of Attraction. Do you agree that this is the case?

    Well like with Everything that’s coming into your life you are attracting into your life. And it’s attracted by virtue of the images you’re holding in your mind. It’s what you’re thinking. Whatever is going on in your mind you are attracting to you.

    Stuart I don’t think you coverd off on Pats post in an adequated manner as your explanation can be anormal action by a person who doesn’t beilieve in the laws of attraction.

    Pat the law of attraction is about putting out into the universe your needs in a clear and concice manner. Janice made the comment about a Bob Proctor report which I aslo have on my web at

    We tend to look at using the law of attraction like this;
    Now if xxxx would do this for me, and if this happens, and if that happens, and if that money comes in , and if I could get this, and if I could understand that THEN I could do this.

    The law of attraction should be as Napoleon Hill said “There’s a difference between wishing for something and being ready to receive it. No one is ready for something until they believe that they can acquire it. The state of the mind must be belief and not mere hope of wish.”

    We need the mind set, the belief in our own powers and we make it happen we gain the wealth that gains us the the ability to buy car . The law of attraction joins us the buyer with the seller because we both have a common element of thought.

    I believe the Law of Attraction goes along with the approach of creating a better life. whatever we think about will come about. “Everything that comes into our life comes through the law of attraction.

    Understanding the law of attraction and we can start attracting good things, health, and people, into our lives… or bad!!

    The cornerstone of the Law of Attraction is to focus on the positive thoughts and clear your mind of any negative feeling. This is easier said that done. But with practice, your mind can be trained to do so.

    The Law of Attraction reveals The Secret to everything we’ve ever wanted. love, family, health, joy, wealth and even your desired business ventures.

    Often times, people do not end up getting what they want is simply because they have not determined what they want. They do not seem to have a crystal clear detail of their desires. So, we will be able to feel and see what success is like.

    hi stuart ive been reading alot about this law of attraction and i can understand the pat coment cause i have been trying to work out a way to get married the last 4 years and cause ive been thinking about it alot this year i can finely do it and its made it alot easier, and another thing is ever since my second baby which was 17 months ago this is weird but i have these dreams and they come true like if i see someone that i havent seen for ages in my dreams atleast 3 or 4 nights in a row i’ll see them in that week or i dream that my partner gets a car soon and we’ll get one that week and when i dream about having another baby we end up with abit of money some how its weird but thats what has attracted me to this law of attraction and my sister and her girlfriend actually gave me a dvd about the secret and i loved it and so believe things like that happen for sure

    What a great article. Controlling my thoughts is something I work on daily. When our thinking is messed up, we are limiting our possibilities.

    One of my favorite classic books, As a Man Thinketh,” has a memorable line — “A man is literally what he thinks.” It’s amazing that James Allen wrote these words years ago. He was writing on attracting things into our lives.
